Our 2nd graders recently received a surprising visit from Cartman, a K-9 that works in the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). As the officers explained to our students, the dog is one of the creatures with most acute sense of smell in the animal world. This allows them to detect the presence of prohibited or regulated substances and to pinpoint their locations.
Cartman specializes in identifying agricultural products that could contain pests and diseases, but police dogs can also be trained to detect narcotics, firearms, and currency. After an interesting talk, our students had the opportunity to pet Cartman before he returned to his police duties. Enjoy the pictures!
