“We don´t receive wisdom; we must discover it ourselves after a journey that no one can take for us or spare us.” --Marcel Proust
Dear Parents,
We believe that the college admissions process presents a developmental opportunity through which students learn about themselves and decision making. Through the process, students recognize their strengths, their limits, their needs, and their goals. It is a time when all aspects of a student´´s life converge; it is a time that sums up the past, defines the present and explores the future. Using thoughtful self-assessment, students decide paths for themselves that meet their personal criteria and will provide a challenging academic and social environment in which they can succeed and grow. We want students to be independent, to work hard, and to be truly invested in the process of planning for college.
As teachers and counselors, we view ourselves as resources that are available to students and parents during the entire process. First, we seek to help students assess themselves thoughtfully and realistically. We listen to them, provide them with guidance and help alleviate their concerns. Then, based on a student´´s interests and aspirations, we will suggest colleges to be investigated. Our goal is not only to help them find a college that “fits” but also to grow confident as young professionals through the discovery and application process.
Finally, we know that the making of a major decision is often difficult and can be a cause for apprehension for students and families alike. We stand ready to lessen anxiety, to help with details, and in any other way make the college admissions process a positive, constructive, educational and fulfilling one.
I look forward to working with you and your child.
