The College Counseling Program in the Upper School seeks to offer significant individual guidance in helping seniors choose a college. The overarching goal of the College Counseling Program is to help students make informed choices about which colleges and universities best suit their needs, abilities, and aspirations. This process strives to empower students to assess themselves realistically, to speculate creatively about their futures, to refine their abilities to make choices, to assume responsibility, to embrace their independence, to learn that risk and rejection are key parts of their emerging adult lives, and ultimately, to make thoughtful choices regarding their next educational step.

This decision-making process is undertaken with the understanding that there are no easy formulas for finding the right college or university. While a reasonable process much of the time, applying to and choosing a school can be frustrating, impersonal, capricious, and inefficient. All parties–college counselor, parents, and student applicants–are encouraged to embrace the process with good humor, to trust their intuition, and be prepared to “play the game.”

At Robinson School, the College Counseling office assists in all aspects of the college application process and helps to make sure each student is successful in searching for and applying to the right colleges and universities.
