Before taking a standardized test, it is important to prepare for it. Students should not take these exams “cold.” It is necessary to review test taking strategies and the content skills that will be covered on the exam.
Objectives of Review Sessions
Review sessions serve a number of purposes, which include the following:
To increase subject knowledge and test familiarity in the verbal and quantitative areas assessed by instruments such as the SAT and College Board.
To conduct a realistic assessment of one´s strengths and weaknesses as a student and to develop a plan to address weakness before graduating from high school.
To familiarize oneself with the SAT to develop awareness of the testing process.
To develop and improve effective test taking strategies, including appropriate pacing, increased focus, and guessing strategies.
To recognize traps and correct answer cues.
To learn that you are seeking the wrong answers and not the correct ones.
To strengthen fundamental mathematical, reading, and writing skills.
To learn how to continue to prepare for the SAT after this course is finished.
Robinson School offers SAT courses for all our middle school students and students in grade 9 as part of our regular curriculum.
For grades 10 to 12, we also offer a one week shut down program to review SAT content and test taking strategies. If more assistance is desired, our Beyond the Bell Program provides SAT review classes on Saturdays and after school for an additional fee.
