A note from José Julián Ortiz, our Middle and Upper School Professor of Technology and Design:
Dear Robinson parents,
Our High School Technology Department recently launched a pilot program, which aims to bring college level-coding skills to a captive audience of eager Robinson School Senior students. This is a first for Robinson School, and as far as I know, for any of our competing high schools.
Our students are embarking on a journey that will cover coding skills as presented in the prestigious Harvard CS50Edx MOOC, which they are taking alongside yours-truly. The MOOC gives the participants an option to obtain a certificate from Harvard, at the cost of $90, which is optional if successfully completed.
I am very happy to announce that I will also be receiving support from the Math Department for this initiative. Right now, Mr. JR Arroyo has volunteered to step in and help cover any math-related subject matter which may require a specialist’s reinforcement, This means that JR and I will be developing this experience into an Inter-Curricular Unit, with the intention of using it as a semester activity for the students of our IB program.
