Indra Robles, the new Robinson School Middle School College Counselor, did not plan on working at a school again. But we all know that Robinson has a way of making people want to join our family. After serving as the president of the Caribbean Counselor Association (CCA) and 15 years of professional counseling experience, she left her last position at the Escuela Hotelera de San Juan (Hotel School of San Juan) as Student Services and Retention Officer in 2012. Indra embarked on the journey of building Career and College Advisory Center (CCAC), the first center in San Juan to offer students all the required information and services necessary they need to begin planning their future career, college and professional goals.
Only the opportunity to work at Robinson School and our persuasive Upper School College Counselor, Beatriz Guzmán, could convince the amazing Indra Robles to become the latest addition to Robinson’s expanding College Counseling Office. In fact, Beatriz recruited Indra directly and encouraged her to consider the position of Middle School counselor. Indra was attracted, but unsure of returning to a school work environment after being her own boss. Still, something stood out about Robinson. Indra believes that “we need to teach future generations values and principles” while preparing them with the latest academic skills they need for success. Strong principles are unchanging and constant. Strong values help students build character and prepare them with the tools to overcome any challenge or obstacle they may face. This is what makes Robinson unique, according to Indra, our comprehensive focus beyond the academic to the emotional, the social, and the spiritual. After Beatriz counseled her and helped her objectively weigh the pros and cons, Indra decided that she wanted to be a part of the “Robinson Difference” and, of course, the Robinson family. We are so excited to have her and we know that she will help our Middle Schoolers identify their life goals – along with their strengths and their weaknesses – as they pave their road to success into college and beyond. Outside of Robinson, Indra’s hobbies include spending time with her husband and 2 children, a son and a daughter. She loves the beach and (when she has time), dance classes, singing, and all performing arts. A little-known fact about Indra – she used to appear in TV commercials! Robinson feels blessed to welcome Indra Robles to the Robinson family.
