Gloria Hicks TurPosition: Elementary School Music and Performing Arts teacher/PTO President
Publications: Un Evento Musical
Gloria started studying music when she was 7 years old and quickly decided she wanted to dedicate her life to it. “I believe children need to experience other cultures and see them as equals. Music gives that to them. No matter the nationality, once you put on music to the kids, they dance, sing and laugh. I believe music is a tool that bring happiness to students.”
After graduating college, she worked 4 years as a music teacher at another private school. She stopped to take some time as a full-time mom for a couple of years while working on the side with workshops, jingles “anything that had to do with music” she shared. When she only had one daughter left at school she discovered a job opportunity at Robinson. We are glad to say she took it!
Throughout the years, Gloria has seen the school grow in every sense! More classrooms, more students, and more community life. She has been producing musicals and directing the school chorus since she got here, 18 years ago. Later on, she developed the Mommy and Me Program, one of Robinson’s early childhood programs. 5 years ago she joined the PTO and for the last two years she has been the president.
One of the biggest annual activities the PTO organizes is the Christmas Tree Lighting an event which works to unite the Robinson Family and help parents enjoy their children’s social school life. During this event, the PTO gives support to the Robinson Christmas Auction, a live event that takes place on this date to raise money for the Robinson Scholarship Fund. The PTO always lives the culture of giving that makes Robinson so unique.
On her free time she enjoys traveling, reading, sailing, but most of all, spending quality time with her family. We are so happy to have you here, Gloria!
