6th Grade Graduation – 2016
Robinson School proudly graduated the 6th grade Class of 2016—or future Class of 2022—in Shappell Gym on Saturday, May 21, 2016. Maritere Larrieu, Elementary School Division Head, and Patricia Crivellone, class sponsor, welcomed the Robinson School community to the ceremony. Joined by the other 6th grade class sponsors—Sheyla Valentín, Carrie Newdall and Marilin González—Cindy Ogg, Robinson Head of School, introduced Leonardo Zambrano to lead the invocation.
Anna María Forastieri delivered the Welcome Speech, expressing mixed emotions on this special occasion that marked the end of their elementary school years and the beginning of Middle School. Although the 6th Grade Class of 2016 felt both anxious and excited, these emotions were reminders of their first experiences at Robinson, where they learned that “it did not matter if we won or lost; what mattered was the effort, dedication and perseverance we demonstrated in trying to achieve our goals.” Having been equipped with the academic and character skills needed for success by parents and teachers, she declared that the Class of 2022 felt ready for the future and the challenges to come.
Diego Alexander Coifman dedicated the graduation ceremony to parents. He conveyed the class’s gratitude for their parents’ sacrifices and “for simply loving us.” Robinson shares these sentiments: Parents are the foundation from which our students safely reach for the stars!
Maritere Larrieu joined Cindy Ogg to present the graduates with their diplomas. Sheyla Valentín read each student’s name, and they came forward to receive their diploma from Mrs. Larrieu and Mrs. Ogg.
Enid Camacho, Middle School Division Head, joined Mrs. Larrieu and Mrs. Ogg after the presentation of diplomas. The class rose, and Mrs. Larrieu declared them 6th grade Robinson graduates for the year 2016 “by the power vested in me by the Board of Education of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the Head of Robinson School.” As students moved their tassels from left to right, they officially advanced from Elementary to Middle School!
Following Robinson tradition, Maritere Larrieu officially presented Enid Camacho with the upcoming 7th grade class. Ms. Camacho accepted the class as they continued their academic journey in Middle School. She congratulated the graduates on their “hard work and dedication,” and wished them great success: “May your years ahead be rewarding, as well as challenging. Class of 2022, you are our future!”
After the Class of 2022 sang the Robinson School song and their graduation song—“Try Everything” by Shakira—Angelina Sánchez led the closing prayer. She expressed her gratitude for parents, teachers and friends, and asked for the guidance and perseverance to learn something new every day. Most importantly, she asked for “the determination to make this a better world, not just for our generation, but for those to come.”
After the final benediction by Chaplain Rosangélica Acevedo and the recessional, the graduating class gathered in the Dorothea Shappell Courtyard and joyously threw their caps in the air!
Congratulations, Class of 2022! We know you will make even greater contributions to Robinson, Puerto Rico and the world as you keep growing and learning!
