Today, September 8, The Elementary School Library is celebrating “El Maratón Puertorriqueño de Lectura”. As part of the activities taking place, we received a visit from Tina Casanova, a very well-known Puerto Rican author who has cultivated both the novel and children’s literature. During her visit, she read some of her fascinating stories and sang songs with our students.
Casanova’s work is extremely important because she writes about Puerto Rican culture and national identity in the 21st century, topics often neglected by 21st-century Puerto Rican authors. In addition to her literary work, she offers workshops for creative writing under the sponsorship of the Department of Education of Puerto Rico. Tina and her husband, Sigfredo Rodríguez, also serve as educational resources to public and private schools, universities and libraries.
We thank them for a wonderful visit and special thanks to our librarian, Patricia Vega, for coordinating today’s reading marathon! Enjoy the photos!
