On Thursday, September 28th, Scholastic officially announced the top Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge winning schools by state. Robinson School won in Puerto Rico with a total of 97,579 minutes read! We broke last year’s record by 47,523 minutes! Robinson School students are officially the most voracious readers in Puerto Rico!
The Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge is a yearly competition based on the minutes students spend reading during the summer. Robinson Elementary students logged into their Scholastic account during the summer and were able to time their reading. All the minutes summed up to what resulted to be the highest amount of reading time amongst the island’s schools.
As an International Baccalaureate World School, the heart of our institution, is our libraries. Our students have always shown how much they love reading, but this is the first time we’ve been internationally recognized for it!
“This year, our students’ goal was to beat their own record from last year! They showed me how committed their by avidly reading during their library periods and after school. They became familiar with the Scholastic website by logging in their reading minutes. Students learn about technology while also reinforcing their reading skills, which was an added benefit to the activity.”
– Patricia Vega, Robinson Elementary School Librarian
As a winning school, we will be receiving a package from Scholastic to have a big celebration which will take place next month!
