As part of the IB Unit How We Express Ourselves , our first grade students inquired about the importance of theater and how it helps us understand other cultures as well as our own. They had the opportunity to write their own script and develop their own props for a special presentation to parents, Kinder and Second Grade students.
The IB website states that “Theatre is a dynamic, collaborative and live art form. It is a practical subject that encourages discovery through experimentation, the taking of risks and the presentation of ideas to others. It results in the development of both theater and life skills; the building of confidence, creativity and working collaboratively.”
Integrating theater into the Robinson curriculum gives students the opportunity to engage in the creative process as creators, designers, directors and performers. Taking part in this creative process also gives them the opportunity to transform ideas into action as inquisitive and productive artists.
We want to congratulate our first grade students and their teachers for a spectacular job! Bravo!
