I remember a few years ago as a parent of a then third grader, the excitement and anticipation of having my child in a new environment, which I was hoping would be a new and exciting learning place for my daughter, a school where she could reach all her educational dreams and goals, as well as mine.
I can tell you now I have not been disappointed in this journey, and that I am so grateful to Robinson School for what it has done for my daughters education, that I decided to accept the position of PTO President, so that I could work for the school together with our administration, in order to try to pay back a little for the many things she has received from the school.
My daughter Ariana has grown from a shy but happy girl, to a very confident, self-assured, self-determined pre-teen, currently in the seventh grade. For reasons beyond my control, my daughter did not have the opportunity to start at Robinson from kinder or first grade. She was previously in another school and was literally told that she could never learn a second language. When she arrived at the school she only knew a few words and a few phrases in English, but the school assured me she was still young enough to catch- up, and like most children, with the right educational tools and the right teachers, would absorb like a sponge, the skills to master another language.
As you probably know already, new parents this year are in a historical transition time for our school. As an official candidate for the International Baccalaureate Program, our school is on the road to become probably the most famous, the most distinguished, and the most sought-after school in all of Puerto Rico. Approval of the IB program in the near future will have enormous positive implications for your children. It will open doors and experiences worldwide that will last a lifetime, and most importantly , will prepare them to be distinguished professionals anywhere in the world that they may choose to live.
Like I mentioned previously, I accepted the position of PTO President to pay back in a small way, what this school means to me, to my family, and especially to my daughter Ariana. I am happy to inform you that this year the PTO has a great team of devoted, brilliant people like yourselves. We are eagerly working on our WORLD FIESTA that will take place on Friday, September 27. I urge all of you to attend because we will guarantee you a fabulous party, with mariachis, tango and salsa music all in one night.
The PTO needs you to volunteer and work with us. We are fully aware we are already stretched to the limit in our schedules, but where there is a will, there is a way. So please, on behalf of our organization… please honor us with your participation in our organization, which as you know is YOUR organization.
I end by wishing you the very best for you and your children for this year and for all the years your child will be in our school. I hope that one day in the near future, one of you new parents here today, will deliver a few words to the new parents as the next PTO President, and that you too, will have it in your heart and soul to go the extra mile for our school.
Welcome to Robinson!!
Dr. Robert Unda, M.D.
