New MUN members from Robinson School, as well as several guests from American Military Academy, Carvin School and Commonwealth, were in attendance last Saturday, October 5th, for “MUN Training & Mock Exercise”.
The day started with a visit from the US Department of State Representative, Leslie Núñez Goodman, who addressed all the students for a brief rendition of her presentation to Robinson School MUN students the day before. She emphasized the importance of being well-informed about the work of the Department of State, opportunities for scholarships and internships, and potential careers that could align with students’ interests in political science, foreign relations, and diplomacy.
The students were then provided with a presentation to review the history of the United Nations as well as important terms and procedures. The workshop was spearheaded by our own Sofía Dana and Jean Blakeman. To conclude, students were then provided with an opportunity to apply and review all the information in a mock exercise that required them to consider the humanitarian crisis faced by the people of Bahamas after being hit by Hurricane Dorian. Students worked to represent assigned delegations such as the Red Cross, World Health Organization, the United States of America, Cuba, among others.
Thank you to all who joined us at this event!
